In addition to the new songs introduced at Old Princeton Landing, the album featured a cover of the Jimmy Reed R&B classic ‘Baby What You Want Me To Do’, that was recorded live at the OPL. The double vinyl release of ‘Broken Arrow’ also included the previously unreleased song Interstate (recorded in the Spring of 1990), that featured also on the ‘Big Time’ CD single (Reprise 9362 43731-2).

Following the Big Time shoot at the Old Princeton Landing, Jim Jarmusch accompanied Neil and Crazy Horse on the European leg of the Broken Arrow tour. The footage from this expedition was incorporated into the movie Year Of The Horse that premiered at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco on the 8th of May 1997. The film continues to play at movie theaters as it travels around the globe, and was released on video in late 1998 in Canada. During the movie, Neil may be seen wearing one of Ron and Eddy's 'Echos' t-shirts.

The cinematographic techniques used in the Year Of The Horse are described here

A double live album, also titled Year Of The Horse, was released in the summer of 1997. However, the album is not the soundtrack for the movie but features 12 separate recordings taken from shows throughout the year of 1996. Two of the tracks, ‘When Your Lonely Heart Breaks’ and ‘Barstool Blues’, were recorded during the 9 May show at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz. The acoustic tracks ‘Mr Soul’ and ‘Human Highway’ were recorded during October at the 10th Annual Bridge School Benefit at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California. The remainder were recorded at various venues during the European/US Broken Arrow tour.

Year of the Horse

In late 2002, Neil returned to the the Half Moon Bay area to shoot some video footage for his movie ‘Greendale’. Again, the Half Moon Bay was there to comment on the activities (see here).
